Fogia
– from Paris to Finnboda Shipyard.
Fogia was founded in the early 1980s. The reason was something the founders
had seen in Paris: a beautiful glass table with an acrylic base. It turned
out that it was not only difficult to get hold of but extremely expensive.
They had their own version made instead, in the process developing a clever
method of connecting the acrylic pieces. They applied for and received
a patent for the connecting method, and suddenly found that they were
furniture manufacturers. After a few successful years, they becan to make
furniture in other materials, and changed their name from Combiplex to
Fogia. Today, Fogia operates two furniture factories– one for wooden and
one for upholstered furniture.
Left: This is how it began. A table from the Combiplex
collection,
which
lay the foundation to today's Fogia.

1999, this listed building becaume a bright and spacious design forum.
At Fogia
studio, the company develops its own designs. This is the heart of the business,
where Fogia works with its top class designers; Anika Reuterswärd, Håkan Urdell,
Dan Ihreborn, Johan Huldt, Helena Allard, Anki Gneib and Jacob Sahlqvist to
name a few. During the autumn of 1999, Fogia opened up a new head office and
showroom at Finnboda Shipyard outside Stockholm. An old machine hall - and
a listed architectural monument - with nearly 1,500 square metres of floor
space was transformed into a bright, spacious design forum with twelve-meter
high ceilings, hundreds of windows, a water view and a café. Fogia
furniture is also sold through selected retailers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark,
Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Japan and the United Kingdom.
